I want to send you this coffee and journal set - details below!
Hey there! Just wanted to say, THANK YOU for reading along with my substack, creative connections and celebrations. I was listening to the Culture Study Podcast and the guest Lyz Lenz said, “I’m hiding out in a newsletter until morale improves elsewhere” and that made me chuckle. I couldn't agree more, I am so grateful to be sharing more of my writing with you all. It’s like sharing all of the creative fun I have teaching art with everyone! I do hope it helps connect you to your creativity celebrations and connections.
I’m teaming up with my dear friends Buck Wild Coffee and Field Notes to send a coffee & journaling package to celebrate you! Comment on this Substack where you want to drink coffee and journal for a chance to win. (Bonus: tag a friend you want to join you!)
Good morning,
I hope you just poured yourself a coffee. Sending this bright an early on a Saturday, so however your coffee looks, I hope I may join you with my celebrations and connections, because the morning hours are my favorite for creativity.
Many psychologists have analyzed Big-C creative morning routines, wondering how they impact these highly creative thinkers. While not all, a large majority of creatives like Georgia O’Keeffe, Frank Lloyd Wright, and Sylvia Plath were devout morning people - ones who rose early, made coffee, and went right to work. I love this Slate article by Mason Currey if you’re interested in more.
“The morning is the best time, there are no people around.” - Georgia O’Keeffe
This draw to morning coffee time is pretty common in my creative circle - like how stoked I am about Buck Wild Coffee, why I love my pal
work COFFEE ADVENTURES OUTSIDE, and how I’m always finding excuses to meet friends at my local Denver spot Huckleberry Roasters.
While I write this, I’m having a slow coffee morning at home. Starting the day with my coffee and journal next to me is what sets me up for the day. A creative habit that front loads my creative battery, most mornings I write a gratitude list or make a little contour doodle.

For second coffee, I’m meeting up with friends at the vibe-y Nowhere Coffee Co.

There are so many ways to have your coffee, it reminds me of creative acts, there are multiple ways to connect to. There is coffee on the drive to work, coffee with friends, coffee on the couch, instant coffee for a mountain morning start, insert your mode of coffee.
However, no matter what kind of coffee connection I’m having, the guarantee is my journal is close by. A practice in soaking up the morning moments, from quiet journaling time to going on an adventure.
Thanks for having coffee with me this morning.
Hope you got your journal out.

Coffee is my favorite ritual. I’ve been making aero press for years, since I’m the only coffee drinker (and morning person) in my house. Since moving to north Idaho, Evans Brothers is my favorite roaster, and their Steep n Deep instant coffee is so great for adventures and so beautifully packaged in a tea sachet.
I would drink my coffee on the Oregon coast with my childhood best friend Kara Meyers. I would sit with her without having to say or do anything. We could sip coffee and be there at the edge of the ocean.
Yes to all of this! Also that Georgia O’Keeffe quote is so perfect.
